Pupils unable to participate within PE sessions are a persistent source of concern for us. For many teachers, finding purposeful roles for these children in PE lessons is another job on an ever growing list, and all too often non participants are encouraged to read or complete work related to other lessons.
One of the most frequently asked questions is about who can teach Physical Education, particularly in the primary school. A set of nationally recognised professional standards for those coaching children have been recently established by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) on behalf of Sport England
In September 2020, the Government will launch a series of regional pilots to trial innovative approaches to increasing activity levels within and outside school.
· The Department for Education (DfE) will provide £500,000 to “test new approaches to improve the strategic direction and delivery of PE and school sport through the use of teaching schools.”
What to do when PE is chosen for a Deep Dive!
It is unlikely that your school would have PE selected as a deep dive for you, but your headteacher and SLT will put this subject forward if it has been highlighted as a strength in your school! Don’t be afraid!
